Getting to this scenic destination is relatively easy with both options offering great views of Switzerland’s stunning countryside.

What is the nearest train station to get to Zermatt

You must park your car in Täsch at the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch. 

Address: Matterhorn Terminal Täsch, Bahnhofstrasse 1, 3929 Täsch
Price of parking: 16 CHF for one day

We advise you to arrive early to find a place easily or to book online a parking place at the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch.

The Matterhorn Terminal Täsch offers 2,100 covered parking spaces 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

This parking lot is so huge that even if you are parked far away, you can take a shuttle (free) that will take you to the station.

Once you have parked your car, take a train from Matterhorn Terminal Täsch to Zermatt city center

There are trains every 20 minutes. 

The journey takes about 10 minutes. The price is 16.40 CHF for a round trip per person. 

You can buy your tickets on the spot, online on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn website or on the SBB website (if you have the half-fare card it works).

This scenic route offers magnificent views of the Alps and its many glaciers, so be sure to keep your camera handy!

Why is there no car in Zermatt?

Zermatt is the southernmost resort in Switzerland and is perched at an altitude of 1650 meters. 

Gasoline-powered vehicles were banned in Zermatt in 1931. This decision was confirmed by a vote of the inhabitants in 1972 and again in 1986.

This helps preserve its natural beauty, as well as provide a peaceful atmosphere for visitors.

Plus, it allows for an even more enjoyable stroll around the streets and alleys of this picturesque little town.

So if you’re looking for an experience without any car-related distractions, then Zermatt is undoubtedly worth a visit!

How to get to Zermatt from Zurich

By Train

If you travel by train there’s no direct line to Zermatt. You must make one to two changes to Visp or Bern and Visp before arriving in Zermatt.

The travel takes around 3h12 minutes on average.

It will cost around 87CHF-162CHF (US$93 – US$171). Note that if you take the travel Switzerland pass it will be cheaper.

By Car

If you travel by car it will take you approximately 3h45minutes so 232.6 km (144 miles)

How to get to Zermatt from Geneva

By Train

From Geneva to Zermatt there’s no direct line by train.

You will need to make one to Visp before arriving in Zermatt.

The travel takes around 3h40minutes on average.

It will cost around 83CHF – 154CHF (88 $US – 163 $US).

By Car

If you travel by car it will take you approximately 3h17 minutes so 240 km (149 miles)

By Train

You can find a direct train to Zermatt from Bern.

The travel takes around 2h17minutes on average.

By Car

If you travel by car it will take you approximately 3h14minutes so 234,6 km (145 miles)

How to get to Zermatt from Interlaken

By Train

If you travel by train there’s no direct line to Zermatt. You will need to make two changes to  Spiez and Visp before arriving to Zermatt.

The travel takes around 2h09minutes in average.

It will cost around 38 CHF – 90 CHF (US$41 – US$96).

There are approximately 135 trains per week

By Car

If you travel by car it will take you approximately 3h03minutes so 159,2 km (98 miles)
